lucky young professional to the APTI conference [Montreal, October 13-17, 2008]
and the Preservation Trades Network conference (International Preservation Trades
Network - IPTW) [Barre, Vermont - July 18-20, 2008].

APTDC is pleased to announce this year's winners of the
Founders' Fund Award for Young Professionals Sponsorship Program.
One applicant was chosen for the APTI Conference in San Juan, which includes full conference registration, travel stipend and a full-year APTDC membership. Two recipients were chosen for the Preservation Trades Network (PTN) International Preservation Trades Workshop (IPTW) in
Frederick, MD, which includes full conference registration, travel stipend,
and a full-year APTDC membership. Further, three Chapter Membership Awards were handed
out, which includes a one-year complimentary membership to APTDC.

APTI CONFERENCE AWARD
Seth Wilschutz, Intern Architect, Hartman - Cox Architects, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Wilschutz earned his B.S. Architecture at the University of Cincinnati in 2003 and his Masters of Architecture at the University of Cincinnati in 2005. He completed three cooperative learning quarters with Hartman - Cox before returning to join them full time upon his graduation. While at UC Seth earned the Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award, the Outstanding Graduate Student Award and the Outstanding M. Arch Student Award. During Seth’s time at Hartman Cox he assisted with the Restoration and Enhancement of the National Historic Landmark Old Patent Office Building (Robert Mills, Thomas U. Walter, Adolph Cluss; 1836-68), now home to the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Seth was instrumental in the development of the construction documents, and developed creative and sensitive solutions for accessibility and integration of modern building systems in the 19th century Greek Revival building.
PTN IPTW AWARDS
Jennifer Parker, Intern Architect, National Park Service, Technical Preservation Services, Washington, D.C. (through the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers)
Ms. Parker earned her B.S. Building Construction at Auburn University in 2002 and her Master of Fine Arts in Historic Preservation at Savannah College of Arts & Design in 2007. While in Savannah Ms. Parker was President of the Southeast Region Chapter of APTI and helped plan the Atlanta conference. Since joining the Technical Preservation Services office of the NPS as a contractor through the NCSHPO office Jennifer has been instrumental in the development of the First Time Users Guide to the Federal Rehabilitation Tax Incentive Credit Program (FTIP). She also reviews rehabilitation projects seeking federal tax credits and provides technical assistance relating to The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Jennifer is currently working on the development of case studies which highlight projects that have successfully completed the FTIP and also earned a LEED rating or similar recognition for sustainability.
Kent Hulet, Structural Engineer, Robert Silman Associates, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Hulet earned his B.S. Civil Engineering at Brigham Young University in 2003 and his M.S. Architectural Engineering at Pennsylvania State University in 2006. He also earned his LEED AP certification in 2006. Mr. Hulet was Visiting Scholar at the University of Sheffield, England in 2004.
Since joining Robert Silman Associates in 2005 Kent has participated in the rehabilitation of several
noted historic structures including the Eastern Market (both before and after the fire) in Washington, D.C., Healy Hall at Georgetown University. He is currently involved with the stabilization of Fort Pike (1826), New Orleans, LA. Fort Pike took a direct hit by Hurricane Katrina and was completely submerged and now exhibits extensive shifting, foundation settlement and weaknesses in lateral thrust resistance. Kent’s
study of historic masonry structures that have been subjected to flooding will aid in the development of solutions to stabilize the structure for public access.
