2008 APT-DC OFFICERS

APT-DC Officers hold meetings on the first Monday of each month. All meetings are open for membership participation. Members are encouraged to attend.

Tom Whitmore, President
Project Executive, The Christman Company
Tom has a degree in Architecture from the University of Michigan and worked during the first part of his career in Washington state and Oregon in the design/build timber-framing business and then in commercial architecture. While working in Oregon, he changed careers from architecture to construction management and has since secretly advocated good architectural design at value-engineering sessions on many projects.
In 2000, Tom returned to Michigan and began work with The Christman Company. He worked on many of Christman’s historic preservation and healthcare projects in Michigan before transferring to the Mid-Atlantic regional office in 2006 to focus on historic preservation construction projects. He is a LEED-accredited professional and is a past chapter board member of the USGBC. Tom lives with his wife Ellen, and their two children Phoebe and Harry, in Vienna, Virginia.

Dave Clark, Vice-President
Project Engineer, Structural Preservation Systems
Originally from Michigan, Dave attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with a minor in Classical Archaeology. He went on to take his current position with Structural Preservation Systems, where he has since worked managing a number of historic, high rise and commercial projects, including Davidge Hall in Baltimore, MD. When not working, Dave can usually be found travelling to some remote corner of the globe.

Catherine Dewey, Treasurer
Architectural Conservator, National Park Service
Catherine Dewey, a Chicago native, graduated from university of Kansas with a B.A. in Classical Antiquities and an M.S. in Historic Preservation, with a certificate in Architectural Conservation from the University of Pennsylvania. Since that time she has worked in several locations including Ukraine, Italy and Egypt as well as closer to home in Philadelphia, Chicago, New York and Harrisburg, PA. She currently works for the National Park Service, National Capital Region as an architectural conservator, serving the region's parks. When she is not working or keeping track of APT's money, she volunteers with Congressional Cemetery, hosts dinner parties, plays with her cats and travels.

Purvi Gandhi Irwin, Secretary
Designer, QUINN EVANS | ARCHITECTS
Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Purvi attended the Cooper Union as an undergrad and received a Bachelors’ degree in Architecture. She went on to study at the University of Pennsylvania and received her Masters in Historic Preservation. Since joining Quinn Evans | Architects in 2005, Purvi has worked extensively on institutional and public historic preservation projects, the most extensive being the rehabilitation of historic Eastern Market in Capitol Hill. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and is near finishing her IDP requirements. When not working on historic buildings, Purvi is pursuing one of many other artistic endeavors, including pottery, scrapbooking, jewelry making and calligraphy. She also likes to travel and is a firm believer that you should keep the number of countries you’ve visited equal to how old you are.
