ABOUT US

Who Are We?

APT DC is a not-for-profit all volunteer run, educational association founded in 1980 to serve the needs of preservationists in the National Capital Region. Our territory encompasses the states of MD, VA, and WV, the District of Columbia and Sussex County, DE. APT DC is the local chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology International (APTI). APTI was founded in 1968 to disseminate information on historic building materials and systems and to promote development of preservation technology.
APT DC promotes the exchange of ideas and knowledge concerning the conservation of historic resources and the application of preservation technology. We offer tours, lectures and workshops and promote exchanges with other local groups with similar interests. APT DC also hosts an annual symposium and publishes several newsletters a year to further knowledge about the preservation field. APT members include architects, engineers, contractors, historians, conservators, tradespersons and members of the general public.
