The National Park Seminary, designed by Washington architect T.F. Schneider (as an inn) in the late 1880s, became a finishing school for girls in 1894. It was enlarged in the early 20th century before being annexed to the Walter Reed Army Hospital during World War II. In 2004, the Army transferred the site to Montgomery County, which brought in preservation-minded developers to rehabilitate the existing structures and create compatible infill housing on the site. Join APT DC and Save Our Seminary as we take a tour of this historic area and see how preservation and new development really can get along! 

The tour will start at 10 am and take us around the grounds and through the ballroom and original dining room as well as some of the restored lobby areas. The tour is expected to take about 2 hours. Light refreshments will be provided after the tour in the community room. 

Please park on Linden Lane unless directed otherwise by Save Our Seminary staff. The tour will kick off in front of the gymnasium building at the corner of Linden Lane and Cassedy Street. We'll tour in groups of 15. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing as we'll be spending significant time outside. There are some stairs on this tour, although an elevator is available if needed. As a friends group, Save our Seminary asks for a donation of $5 per person.

Because the Seminary is not readily accessible via Metro, APT DC will be helping to coordinate carpooling to the site. If you are willing to give someone a ride, please email events@aptdc.org and let us know how many people you can take with you and where you are located. If you need a ride, send us an email with your location. We'll do our best to find rides for all who need them.
