APT DC is proud to host Kelly Caldwell, Director of Conservation and Senior Conservator at Evergreene Architectural Arts for a virtual presentation on the use of lasers in heritage conservation. EverGreene embraces the use of new technologies at varied project sites. Laser cleaning is a tool they frequently use to conserve significant architectural sites and objects, including the U.S. Capitol.

Topics to be discussed include

  • the history and typical applications of lasers for architectural surfaces and objects,
  • the use of the latest laser ablation equipment and its advantages for cleaning where applicable,
  • the need for thorough research and testing prior to implementing cleaning, and
  • the general safety requirements for use of lasers within preservation.

About our presenter:

Kelly received dual BA’s from University of North Carolina Greensboro in Archaeology and Anthropology. She continued on to University College London to receive her MA in Principles of Conservation and MSc in Conservation for Archaeology and Museums. Additionally, she completed several certifications for the use of lasers in conservation.
