Designed in 1910 by Snowden Ashford, the Alexander Crummell School has been closed since 1970 only being lightly used and largely neglected. Join APT DC for a special hard hat tour of the restoration of one of DC's most recognized endangered historic places. With facade restoration and selective demolition currently underway, this tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at the existing conditions before the building's revitalization is complete. Hear from the project team about unforeseen conditions, site constraints, restoration challenges, and the real-time process of bringing this historic building back to life.
The Crummell School is not accessible, and tour participants must be able to climb stairs. Tour participants will also be required to have full Personal Protective Equipment (hardhat, high visibility vest, glasses, proper footwear, and long pants).
